Minister visits museum on Family Day before Tuesday’s budget, touts child care

By The Canadian Press

VICTORIA — Finance Minister Carole James took advantage of free admission at Victoria’s Royal British Columbia Museum on Family Day to spend time with her children and grandchildren and talk about Tuesday’s provincial budget.

James says family issues will make up a large part of the budget she presents Tuesday.

She says the budget will focus on the New Democrat government’s initiatives to improve affordability for people in B.C. while building a solid economy.

The minister says the budget will be balanced and will include funding details on the government’s plans to reduce poverty and fight climate change.

She says the budget also focuses on both supporting families and building the economy through continued enhancements to child care and housing programs.

As for the tradition of a finance minister buying new shoes to present the budget, James joked that she couldn’t decide but that she would wear one of two pairs she recently bought at a two-for-one sale.
