MEXICO CITY — Mexican authorities have arrested a suspect in the killing of a local Red Cross official in the southern state of Guerrero.
The Guerrero state security spokesman said Monday that the man allegedly pulled out a pistol and killed the local Red Cross assistant co-ordinator in the resort city of Zihuatanejo on Feb. 8. Spokesman Roberto Alvarez did not mention a possible motive in the crime.
In November, a Mexican Red Cross paramedic was slain and six wounded by a gang of young gunmen in another part of Guerrero state.
But there is no indication the medical group is being specifically targeted. Several Roman Catholic priests have also been killed in Guerrero, in what the church says is a climate of generalized violence.
