German far-right party members attacked after cinema visit

Berlin police say two members of the far-right Alternative for Germany party’s youth wing were injured in a street attack after watching a Holocaust film.

Police said Monday they are investigating whether the violence was politically motivated.

The party’s youth wing, known as Young Alternative, said its members were attacked by people shouting “(expletive) Nazis” late Sunday after attending a screening of the film “Who Will Write Our History,” about the Warsaw Ghetto.

The head of the Berlin film festival had invited Alternative for Germany to watch the movie for free. The offer was a response to the anti-Semitic and revisionist comments made by some of the party’s members.

Police said a 27-year-old man received treatment for a head injury but refused to let paramedics take him to the hospital.
