Conservatives take three of five seats in Waterloo Region

Waterloo Region will be sending four new MPP’s to Queen’s Park.

There was a huge upset in Kitchener-Centre on Thursday night.

Laura Mae Lindo of the NDP defeated Liberal incumbent Daiene Vernile. Vernile actually finished third in the voting, over 3,500 votes behind Conservative candidate Mary Henein Thorn.

The riding of Waterloo also stays orange as incumbent Catherine Fife held onto her seat.

Fife finished over 10,000 votes ahead of PC candidate Dan Weber.

The riding of Kitchener-Conestoga stayed blue, but it was close to going orange. Mike Harris Jr. of the Conservatives defeated Kelly Dick of the NDP by just under 700 votes.

The new riding of Kitchener South-Hespeler was also a close race. Amy Fee of the Conservatives edged out the NDP’s Fitzroy Vanderpool by just over 750 votes.

The Conservatives also pulled off an upset in Cambridge.

Belinda Karahlios defeated the NDP’s Marjorie Knight by over 2,100 votes. Liberal incumbent Kathryn McGarry finished third in the voting.
