Kitchener native has shot at making Argos

Kitchener’s Hassan Barry is glad he stuck with football.

The 22-year-old former Eastwood Collegiate student has a chance at making the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts for the 2018 season.

Undrafted, Barry signed as a free with the team in May.

“So after, the day after the draft, I got a call from them, they told me they’d like to sign me, so it’s pretty exciting.” Barry told 570 NEWS.

After Eastwood, Barry went on to play university football at McMaster, where he played in 25 games over four seasons.

“You for sure carry the fundamentals with you, you take the fundamentals you learned in school and try to apply them here…They do look for how you do everything, the details, the little details, that’s very
important and something you learn in school…Speed of the game is much faster, obviously bigger guys, more skilled.” Barry said when talking about making the jump to the CFL.

No word yet if Barry will play in Toronto’s season opener next Friday in Saskatchewan.

They host Ottawa tonight in their final pre-season game.
