Police continue to search for suspect after two sexual assaults

Regional Police are looking for a man wanted in connection to an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

Police say on October 27th of 2017, a six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the stairwell of a Kitchener apartment building. Officers believe the suspect frequented that building – 318 Patricia Avenue.

They believe this case could be connected to another sexual assault that took place four years earlier, at an apartment building in Waterloo on 429 Barrie Street.

In that case, a four-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by an unknown man, also in a stairwell.

Spokesperson Cherri Greeno says WRPS have now released a new composite image.

“As part of the investigation, our officers were able to collect evidence from the apartment buildings where the sexual assaults took place. Some of that evidence did include some DNA evidence – which we sent away, and was used to help create this image that you see today.”

Greeno says this is an ongoing, high-priority investigation.

“This image was produced by Parabon NanoLabs, a company from the United States. This is the first time that we’ve used this company, and we hope by releasing this high-quality image it will trigger someone’s memory. This is just another avenue we are taking to help solve this incident – we did also release a re-enactment video awhile ago, as well as a previous composite.”

Police also have a message of safety for our community, parents, and caregivers.

“We’re encouraging them to have a conversation with their children, that if they see someone suspicious or any suspicious activity, to go and tell someone they trust. We’re also telling parents that if they notice anything suspicious to call us immediately, so police can respond.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-570-9777 ext. 8661 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
