Guelph Police lay more assault charges against acupuncturist Sherman Lai

58-year-old Sherman Lai faces more charges of assault as Guelph Police continue to investigate allegations against the Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Acupuncturist.

Police began their investigation in October 2017 after sexual assault allegations against the man at his practice in Guelph.

Lai worked on Surrey Street for over 20 years and moved his practice six years ago to Morriston.

As of May 29th, in total, Lai is charged with 18 counts of sexual assault, seven counts of assault, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts of assault with a weapon, five counts of uttering death threats and one count of forcible confinement.

Most of the victims were former patients.

Police believe there may be more victims within the Greater Toronto Area and beyond who may have been referred to him and are reminding everyone there is no statute of limitations on crimes of this nature.
