Waterloo Regional Police say they are seeing an increase in stunt driving charges throughout city streets.
Sgt. John Nymann with the Regional Police Traffic Branch says in the first four months of this year police issued 55 stunt driving charges locally, up from 44 during the same time, last year.
“It’s stunning to see a G2 license holder for example, opperating a family members motor vehcile doing well over the speed limit – 50 km/h over the limit,” says Nymann.
He adds in the last week or so, Regional Police have caught drivers going 70 km/h over the limit.
“We are not safe in our cars. We often think we’re in a safe bubble, it just simply isn’t true, especially at those speeds.”
Wellington County OPP say they responded to 300 charges during Road Safety Week between May 15th through to the 21st, with nine drivers charged with racing and their vehicles impounded for a week.
