Bring your story to the world with help from the KPL

Calling all storytellers.

The Kitchener Public Library wants to help you share your story with the world.

The KPL’s Podcast Club has invited the hosts of one of Canada’s most popular podcasts to teach us how to make a good idea into a great podcast.

Leah-Simone Bowen co-host’s “The Secret Life of Canada” — a podcast featuring the untold and under-told histories of Canada.

Bowen says the great thing about podcasts is their accessibility.

“It’s really accessible to create. There are a lot of people who might not get hired to do a radio show or be on television, but can just pick up and do a podcast,” says Bowen.

Bowen credits the KPL for offering the tools needed to create a high quality product.

“One of the things that can be a bit limiting about podcasting is that you do need a little bit of equipment and a little bit of knowledge about editing software. So the fact that they are providing that to people in the community is really valuable,” says Bowen.

Bowen says she, along with co-host Falen Johnson, will give some tips and tricks about what made their podcast successful.

According to Bowen, a well maintained schedule and blankets are keys to their success.

“You need to have a good schedule in place because they are a lot of work. The other thing I would say is you need a lot of blankets. We actually record in my living in a blanket for sound,” says Bowen.

The seminar goes Monday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the KPL’s central branch on Queen Street in Kitchener.
