Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky wasted no time announcing that he is seeking re-election.

In a release Jaworsky says,

“Today is the beginning of the 2018 Municipal Election period, and I wanted to let you know that I will put my name forward for a second term. My work is not done and when I look to the next four years I know there is much more to accomplish.

It is a privilege to be your Mayor, and I have learned a lot during this term. I have been proud to serve you, and the needs of our city, seven days a week for nearly four years. By my count, I’ve dug through the details of 30,000 pages of Council reports, celebrated with you at 1,500 community events, held hundreds of meetings through my open-door policy, and have handled countless emails with my trusty BlackBerry!”

Uptown Waterloo Councillor Melissa Durrell also announced this morning that she will not be seeking re-election.

In Cambridge, Mayor Doug Craig is also in. He tells 570 NEWS he will officially file his papers by the end of this month.

As for an agenda though, Craig says he’s holding off.

“I think the best and most apt time to do that is after the provincial election,” he said, “I’m going to wait until then, and then have further discussions and public announcements about my candidacy at that time.”

Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic says not to expect anything from him in that regard this week.

“I was honoured to be elected Mayor in 2014 and continue to be focused on doing the job I was elected to do this term,” he said, “There is still a lot of work to be done and I’ll be sharing my plans in that regard in the near future.”

Meantime, Regional Chair Ken Seiling says he’s not making any formal announcements on his intentions as of yet.
