Police find body in Grand River in Cambridge as search continues for missing man

Regional Police say a body has been discovered in the Grand River in Cambridge.

It happened as search efforts were underway near Coronation Boulevard on Thursday.

WRPS Spokesperson Alana Russell says the discovery was made around 10:30 a.m., as officers were in the area for a missing person investigation.

“As a result of their presence in the area, they were able to locate a body in the Grand River this morning. The investigation is obviously in its early stages – but that’s the current situation right now.”

Russell says the canvass in that particular area relates to 23-year-old Mohsin Motala.

“He was reported missing earlier this week from Cambridge Memorial Hospital. So the proximity of this body being located close to that area… it’s something we’re definitely looking into as a potential identity.”

The Special Victims Unit has been called in to investigate, and was on scene for most of Thursday afternoon.

Regional Police are thanking the Cambridge Fire Department for their assistance, and say no current road closures are in place.

Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to contact WRPS at 519-570-9777.
