Search underway in Kitchener for boy swept away by Grand River floodwaters

Volunteers in Kitchener spent Good Friday searching for a three-year-old boy swept away into the Grand River during heavy flooding last month.

Kaden Young went missing on February 21st, after the family van drove into some water, near Grand Valley, west of Orangeville, and was swallowed up by the river. Kaden’s mother was carrying him in her arms when she exited the vehicle, but he slipped from her grip in the fast-moving current.

A search was underway on Friday at Grand River Trail on Riverbend Drive — that’s approximately 40 kilometres downstream from where Kaden ended up in the river.

Up to 40 searchers were on the ground, looking for any sign of the young boy. It was the first official search organized in Kitchener.

One of those volunteers Lisa says they need all the help they can get.

“No one’s going to stop until Kaden’s home. Kaden needs to be brought home,” she says.

Daily searches also continue in Grand Valley.

If you want to help, you’re asked to dress for the elements, and come prepared with rakes or walking sticks, bandages, water, socks and gloves.
