Entrepreneurs head to UW for Dragons’ Den auditions

Local entrepreneurs have their dreams made, and shattered at the University of Waterloo on Wednesday.

CBC’s hit TV show Dragons’ Den is holding auditions at the William G. Davis Computer Research Centre from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Locals Lindy Sood and Anna Lozano auditioned, and are behind Love Powered Co.

“We’re so exicted to audition for Dragon’s Den – we’re the co-founders of Love Powered Co. Our mission is to power the next generation of mindful leaders – which is our children. Our first project is positive ‘I Am’ affirmation cards – so 22 powers to affirm the greatness within our littles, and ourselves as parents,” says Lozano.

Sood says this is a dream come true.

“Anna and I are friends, and soul-sisters. We were looking for a tool to use with our children to really instill positive self-talk, self-worth, self-love, and confidence. We couldn’t find what we were looking for – so we decided to create it!”

Lozano says they’re both local moms, so this is a cause that hits close to home.

“We just feel that mindfulness and establishing a deeper connection with our children is top of mind with everything that’s going on in the world right now. We’re excited to create this global movement, and have other parents join us in powering the next generation.”

Jason Liquorish is with TagFinderApp.com – and pitched his business on Wednesday.

He says they provide smart tags for pets, your travel bags and luggage, and your keys.

“Millions of us forget our bags, or your pet gets lost – so what we’ve done is created a free worldwide text messaging service. It allows anyone to instantly connect with a owner that finds a pet, or a bag, with these tags. There’s a four-digit code instead of a phone number, and they just put that code through the app – and can connect in realtime, just like texting. We’ve already rolled them out in pet stores across Canada in February, and we’re now bringing the travel tags in.”

Liqurorish says this is not only important to stay connected to your pets and belongings – but also helps prevent identity theft.

“Traditional dog tags have your address, phone number, and personal information engraved on it. Now, instead of that – you can buy the smart pet tag. You activate it, and the service is free for life. So we’re here to introduce this mobile-app and our smart tags to Dragon’s Den out of curiosity – but we’re already rolling these products out in the market.”

You can visit tagfinderapp.com, or you can buy the tags on Amazon as well.

“If anyone wants to reach out and learn more, you can visit our website or contact me in the office at 905-617-6292,” says Liquorish.

Hopefuls have just five minutes to pitch their concepts and ideas to producers. The lucky chosen few will then be contacted and taken to Toronto for a taping, and to meet the Dragons’.

If you missed Wednesday’s auditions, you still have a few opportunities.

Dragon’s Den is holding auditions in Collingwood on March 14, Niagara Falls on March 24, and Toronto on April 7.
