Laser pointed directly at a passenger plane in Wellington County

A scary incident took place on Saturday night in Puslinch.

A pilot flying 7000 feet in the air with 130 people aboard had a laser pointed at him from the ground around 10pm.

The pilot then notified the control tower at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport who then told Wellington County OPP about the dangerous incident.

The laser was confirmed to have been aimed to the aircraft from the area of Laird Road west and side road 10.

Joshua Cunningham with Wellington County OPP says a laser can be a very dangerous tool to an aircraft.

“The beam itself, while it’s small at it’s source, by the time it reaches the elevation of a plane, it’s quite large. It can be quite disruptive and potentially blinding to the pilot.”

Laser pointers are not banned in Ontario, and incidents like this are reported around the world.
