Couple reunited for Valentine’s Day at nursing home in Kitchener

Sue Magditsch says her parents were reunited briefly this Valentine’s Day at a nursing home in Kitchener, after being separated due to illness.

88-year-old Jean and 87-year-old Siegfried Bulla haven’t seen each other for weeks after an illness broke out at Trinity Village Nursing Home and Retirement Home.

Magditsch says the activities directors at the home arranged a “window date” on February 14th. Jean was wheeled over to Siegfried’s building where they were able to see each other, touch the glass, and speak via cell phones given to them by staff members.

Siegfried didn’t show up to the meeting empty handed, bringing two carnations for the love of his life.

In an email, Magditsch says “Mom said it was like being a teenager again. 60 years of Valentines Days and still wanting to be together.”

Magditsch went on to thank the workers at Trinity Village for putting a smile on her parents faces saying “there truly are wonderful people in the world.”
