Rangers’ top line too good… again

By CHRIS POPE

Make it a combined 21 points in two games.

Adam Mascherin, Kole Sherwood and Logan Brown are like heat, fuel and oxygen; the combustion triangle.

Sherwood had his second-straight four point night, and the Kitchener Rangers fanned the Flint Firebirds 5-3.

“They make it easy for me,” said the Columbus Blue Jackets prospect. “We have to keep things going, can’t dwell on it too much.”

After scoring a hat-trick Friday, Sherwood added four assists against his former team Saturday in his return to Flint. Mascherin and Brown each had two goals and an assist. Ten combined points. Add that to Friday’s combined 11, and safe to say they’re enjoying themselves.

“We’re going to split them up next game, just to challenge them a little bit. I’m kidding,” laughed McKee. “They can all score, they can all make plays. When a line is clicking that well, we’re going to stick with that.”

Nick McHugh scored in the second period, giving the fourth line their second contribution of the weekend.

“If my guys are competing like they are, it doesn’t matter where the goals are coming from,” said McKee. “I know every line has the ability to chip in. So as long as they’re competing we’re happy.”

Luke Richardson earned his second straight win in goal, making 20 saves.

The Rangers are now on a six-game winning streak, their longest of the season. Kitchener has also won eight-of-nine since the trade deadline.

They’re at home to the Hamilton Bulldogs, the top team in the Eastern Conference, on Friday at the Aud.

“It’ll be a good test for us,” said Mascherin, who has 33 goals on the season. “Hamilton has loaded up, and we have as well, so we’ve had that one circled.”
