Toddler is found safe in abandoned car that had been stolen in Fergus

OPP say a toddler has been found safe after a car was stolen with the child still in it on Christmas Day.

Police say a man and his accomplice stole a car that was left unlocked and running at a gas station on St. David Street in Fergus, on the evening of December 25. The mother of the child was inside of the store when it happened, and witnesses tried to intervene.

The accomplice took off in a white passenger vehicle, similar to a Kia Seoul. The suspect fled in the stolen car towards Highway 6 with the young child still inside.

The car was found shortly after, abandoned at the side of a highway with the child still in the vehicle, unharmed.

Police are investigating the incident and are asking anybody with information about the suspects to contact Wellington County OPP at 1-88-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
