A 26 year member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service has been suspended in connection with an investigation into an off-duty matter.

The Special Investigations Unit has taken over the probe.

An SIU spokesperson tells 570 NEWS they were made aware of an alleged sexual assault at the end of November.

The alleged incident happened seven years ago.

Since the allegations involve sexual assault, the SIU will not be releasing the name of the complainant or the officer in question.
