Dance For Kindness takes over Waterloo Public Square

It all began when Jennifer Myers found a Youtube Video called The Kindness Boomarang.

That is when the local teacher decided to take the idea behind the moment, and bring it to Waterloo.

Dancers from 3 years old and up flooded Waterloo Public Square yesterday, all dancing to bring a little more kindness to the world.

Myers says the message behind Dance for Kindness is simple.

“It is just people all over the world getting together, learning the same song, dance to the same song, all in the same day, to kick off World Kindness Week.”

It is 6 years, Dance for Kindness has spread to over 120 cities, across 50 different countries, but this is the first year the craze has come to Waterloo.

Myers said she started the campaign at her school Lincoln Heights last year, where she works as a teacher.

“Last year we had a private event just at my school at Lincoln Heights, this year, I wanted to bring it out to Waterloo.”

It was a cool November Sunday, but that didn’t keep the crowds home.

Myers says she was quite pleased with the turnout for the events first year, and hopes to grow the event in future years.

“It is fabulous for our first time, there was talk of rain and snow, and I see blue sky.”
