Waterloo Regional Police are holding a firearms and prohibited weapons amnesty program again.
It begins on November 1st and runs until November 30th.
Police say residents can turn over unwanted or unlicensed firearms and other weapons that are potentially illegal to possess or that pose a safety risk, adding it’s an opportunity to properly dispose of those items without fear of prosecution for illegal possession.
In 2015 and 2014, police collected over 300 firearms, over 100 pellet/BB/imitation guns, 32 other weapons and over 14,000 rounds of ammunition.
However, Regional Police ask that no one actually bring any weapons to a police station.
Instead please call (519) 570-9777 to arrange for an officer to come pick the weapons up.
