Maclean’s Magazine is out with a list of how much it costs to go to university across the country.
It is also breaks down exactly how students are spending their money.
Parents can rest easy knowing that on average students spend slightly more on books than they do on alcohol.
A University of Waterloo student can expect to spend $18,068 each year, whereas a Wilfrid Laurier University student will pay $20,013.
A University of Toronto student living off campus can expect to spend $23,485 each year, the highest average amount in the Maclean’s survey.
A typical student will spend up to $800 a year to go visit family back home, whereas they’ll only fork out about $700 on books.
Meanwhile, students living at home and attending Sherbrooke had the lowest costs for an education, at just $4,284.
