Kitchener Rangers hit the ice Friday, but are one player down

There is no better way to spend a Friday night than to watch, or listen, to your hometown hockey team battle it out.

You are in luck locally, as our Kitchener Rangers hit the ice tonight at the Kitchener Auditorium.

The Rangers will be facing off against their rivals the Owen Sound Attack, who were responsible for knocking the Rangers out of the playoffs last season.

“We’ve been going over the tape trying to see what systems are different, obviously having the head coaching change, there may be some different systems that they will be running, different face off plays, power plays, penalty kills that sort of stuff, so we have to break that stuff down today and have our players ready for that,” said Jay McKee, Head Coach for the Kitchener Rangers.

The Rangers will be down a player tonight, and perhaps for the rest of the weekend, as team captain Connor Bunnaman is dealing with health issues.

“I think we will probably not see Connor for the next couple of games, I think he is going to be shut down for the rest of the weekend, it looks like he has some flu like symptoms, body pretty weak and sore, so we are going to have to shut him down and we will have to rely on the depth of our team,” says McKee.

Part of the Rangers attack plan for tonight is taking lots of shots on the net.

“The Attack have a younger guy in net, quite a bit less experience, so we want to get a lot of traffic out in front of him and have that shot mentality. We want to have at least 16 shots a period, so I think if we can do that we can keep up with their offensive pace,” said McKee.

Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
