New United Way Sets $7M Campaign Goal

The new United Way in our Region has set a $7 million dollar campaign goal this fall.

The Cambridge and KW area United Ways joined forces this summer to create the United Way Waterloo Region Communities.  The goal was announced Friday during a community Rally and BBQ event.

“We’ve put together a new corporation, a new organization that will work together,  that will really work on raising $7 million this year on our campaign, in our community,” said Joan Fisk, the new CEO of United Way Waterloo Region Communities.

This new organization will work with 60-plus local agencies. Fisk says to “understand that we are in this together and that we are creating programs together, and that we are not just a flow-through agency where the money just flows in and then back out.

“We want to be efficient, which is why we put these two organization together,” she says, “and we are really, really ramping up to see if we can change some of the outcomes we have seen”.

The new organization hopes to live up to this year’s theme ‘change the power of poverty”.
