Vision for future Gaslight District on full display Saturday

A small group of artists from Cambridge is working with the developer of the multi-million dollar Gaslight District project in Galt, to give local artists a voice.
Kay Nadalin sits on the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee for the City of Cambridge. She says the plan is for HIP development to engage in community consultations in the fall about what the arts community wants their 12,000 square feet of dedicated studio space to look like.
“They’re going to be the ones who are ultimately tenants within those spaces, people creating within those spaces,” says Nadalin, “so really wanting those units within that studio to service their practices — whether it’s painting or drawing or digital art.”
Nadalin says how many tenants there will be depends on what artists come back and say is an appropriate studio size for them.
A free community event celebrating the future vision of The Gaslight District is on Saturday.
Gaslight Square will be buzzing with the sounds of local musicians for A Day in the District event. You can also tour the various pop-up galleries, and enjoy a mix of local art and history from around Galt.
Nadalin tells 570 NEWS The Gaslight District is envisioned as a thriving hub.
“I think A Day in the District will really give Cambridge a taste of what The Gaslight District is viable to be in the coming years,” she says.
Things get underway at 11 a.m., with a special performance by Serena Ryder at 7:30 p.m.
