Guelph teacher charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a minor

More charges have been laid against a 49-year-old teacher in Guelph, who is facing allegations of sexual offences involving a young person.

Guelph Police say Brian Hathway is a teacher with the Upper Grand District School Board and has taught at a local high school since 2003.

He was arrested on Monday and charged with Sexual Assault, Sexual Exploitation and Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration with a person under 18-years-old.

Police say further investigation has revealed additional victims, and as a result more charges of Sexual Assault, Obtain Sexual Services for Consideration, and Procuring have been laid.

Charges related to the investigation stem from incidents that occurred from 2009 to the present.

Hathway remains in police custody.

Meantime, the Upper Grand District School Board sent 570 NEWS the following statement:

“We are unable to comment on any matters under police investigation however, we are working with the police as they conduct their investigation. This individual has been a staff member at College Heights Secondary School since 2003. We can confirm that the teacher is not at school during this on-going investigation and the board has reported this situation to the Ontario College of Teachers. Investigations of this nature are very serious. We have a number of supports available to any students and staff who require it, including guidance, social workers, child and youth counselling, psychologists and employee assistance supports. We urge anyone who requires support to please reach out. Our first priority remains the well-being of our students and staff.
