Local fisherman hauls in big catch, thanks to flooding

It seems not everyone was displeased with the mass flooding around Waterloo Region, as one man says it made for some good fishin’!

Dan Gurton lives in Cambridge, and says he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to stop and fish on Fountain Street as it was flooded in that area on Saturday.

“I hiked down Fountain and kept following the flooded fields… and at one point, I saw carp surfacing. So, I went down to my car and grabbed a fishing pole.”

Gurton said he also had to run over to a local store, and grab some bait.

“I had to stop at a shop and grab a can of corn to use as bait. I ended up catching a 30 lbs carp before the day was over.”

Gurton’s lived in Cambridge for three years, but says he’s never seen flooding like this before in his entire life.
