Rogers announces changes to Kitchener and GTA-area community channels

Major changes are on the way for RogersTV stations including Kitchener, and across the GTA.

In a statement, the company says at the RogersTV station here, no programming will be affected, however four full-time employees were let go.

Programming in Mississauga, Richmond Hill, Toronto, and Brampton will cease their operations immediately, and be replaced by a single channel that will continue until August 31st.

In September, the four channels that used to have RogersTV programming will switch to previews for Canadian Specialty Channels.

Rogers says the reason for the changes include financial challenges associated with producing local news, and wider funding regulations from the CRTC, which allow Rogers to put resources to better use for audience.

Rogers is the parent company of 570NEWS.
