Provincial police say they’re seeing same driver behaviour as the number of snowmobile-related deaths hits a high.
13 people have died in just the past six weeks in Ontario, bringing the total to 20 for the season.
According to OPP Sergeant Peter Leon, a sizable number of the deaths have stemmed from speeding and driver inattention.
“They’re colliding with trees, rocks, frozen snow banks… we’ve had people strike motor vehicles, other snowmobiles… and [these are] totally preventable occurrences,” says Leon.
“We want people to please exercise caution, respect, and courtesy for others that are out there, because people are dying in what should be a recreational pastime filled with positive memories.”
