GRT workers vote overwhelmingly in favour of strike action

A strike could be looming at Grand River Transit.

644 transit operators, service attendants, and skilled trades workers have voted 98 per cent in favour of strike action if a deal is not reached with the region before midnight March 19th.

The workers are represented by Unifor Local 4304 and Local President, Rick Lonergan says, “There are serious matters related to working conditions that have to be solved before we can reach a new contract.”

Contract talks have been ongoing off and on since December, which is when the last contract expired.

Lonergan goes on to say, “Our members are proud to serve the people of Kitchener and Waterloo but unresolved issues on working conditions must be addressed.”
