Police looking for white pickup after fatal hit and run in Cambridge

Waterloo Regional Police continue to investigate a fatal hit and run in Cambridge.

It happened Saturday evening at around 6 p.m. when a 49-year old Cambridge man was crossing Cedar Street and was struck by two different vehicles.

Police have identified the victim as Joseph Robert Paul Lalonde.

Regional police Staff Sgt. John Van Breda tells 570 News, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“As our investigation unfolded, we discovered that the pedestrian was crossing Cedar Street and was struck by a white Ford pickup truck, which fled the scene,” says Van Breda, “unfortunately, when the pedestrian was knocked down, traffic in the other direction came into contact with him as well and the gentleman died as a result of the injuries sustained from the collision.”

Cedar Street was closed between Osborne Street and Dale Avenue for close to six hours for the collision investigation.

Police are looking for a white Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck between the years of 1999 and 2007 in connection to the crash. They say there is damage to the driver’s side grill, lights and mirror.

They are asking anyone who may spot the vehicle to call police immediately.
