Food trucks could become a permanent fixture in Cambridge

Cambridge may soon allow food trucks in the city on more than just a temporary basis.

Until now, the city has been allowing them as part of a pilot project, but a recommendation going before the General Committee tomorrow night could make them a permanent fixture.

City staff is recommending councillors approve a food truck licensing bylaw, but with some regulations to protect existing stand alone businesses.

Those regulations include setting out a minimum distance in which they could operate from established businesses.

They would also be subject to a licensing fee.

The proposal recommends a fee of $75 for a one day permit, $125 for a three day permit, and $325 for an all year permit.
