The Ministry of the Environment has identified the source of the spill into the Grand River.

The Ministry says they were informed by a local business that the spill is used oil and leaked from a storage tank on their property.

The City of Kitchener and Region of Waterloo have terminated the company’s direct storm sewer connection and will continue remediation efforts.

Costs associated with containment and remediation of the spill are being tracked, however it is too early to estimate what the financial impact of this event will be to taxpayers in our community, if any.
