Communitech looking to fill empty space left by Google

Communitech has reached out to the community to fill the empty space left by Google when they relocated from the Tannery building on Charles Street into the new Breithaupt Block near Victoria and King in Kitchener.

Part of the newly available space will be used by small businesses and start-ups but as Chris Plunkett with Communitech explains, a portion of the space will now be open for the community at no cost.

“We don’t plan on charging for the space it’s for community groups. We will be able to close the new space off to the rest of the building so they can have free run of it.”

Plunkett says this is also a great opportunity for the tech sector and the community to collaborate. “People are able to come into our space and use it for various create community initiatives and that will help us learn more about what is happening in the community and hopefully help them out and provide space for them.”

Plunkett says part of the space will also be used for Communitech’s start-ups programs as well as co-working space for early stage start-ups and for training for high growth companies and adds Communitech will also be bringing in more corporate partners.

The community space is expected to open in the next two months.
