Truck drivers reminded to avoid Kitchener’s Park Street

It’s another reminder for trucks to avoid the Park Street Bridge in Kitchener near Cherry Street.

A truck was briefly stuck there Wednesday afternoon.

Unlike past incidents, no serious damage was done and the truck wasn’t stuck for long. However, it’s a reminder for trucks to avoid the area that has seen numerous collisions in years past.

Steve Allen, Manager of Engineering Design for the City of Kitchener tells 570 News that with LRT construction along King Street, some drivers think Park is a good detour but truck drivers, should be using Weber.

“It is not a truck route…with the closure of King Street I think a lot of vehicles are going down Park Street.”

He adds they are in the early stages of making some changes to the bridge – which has the lowest clearance in the region.

“We’re looking at some enhanced signage; flashing lights or some kind of early warning system…we’ll see what we can implement to help reduce some of these collisions.”
