‘Rover’ parking app makes its way into Kitchener-Waterloo

Whether it’s attending your favourite sporting event, going downtown for dinner, or simply meeting for a coffee, finding a parking spot can be frustrating.

A new Toronto-based app is looking to make an impression on the region, solving some of our traffic headaches.

Creators are calling it the Airbnb of parking. Rover gives us access to privately-shared parking spaces at competitive rates.

App co-founder Tim Wootton has put his brother Jesse in charge of operations for Kitchener-Waterloo.

He says the app has had some by-law troubles in Toronto, but adds there is nothing slowing them down in our region.

“We looked into it pretty extensively, and there doesn’t seem to be anything specifically talking to something like this,” says Wootton.

“And city councillors have said if someone wants to rent their space, they certainly can.”

He says the rates in Toronto are capped at $2 an hour but local rates would hang around $1 an hour.
