Book on history of St. Jerome’s and St. Mary’s High Schools will be launched tonight

A new book about the history of St. Jerome’s and St. Mary’s High Schools will be launched tonight.

Author Nancy Silcox will be on hand at St. Mary’s at 6 o’clock for the release of “A Tradition Of Excellence.”

Silcox spoke to fifty alumni, including CTV news anchor Lisa Laflamme and former Canadian ambassador to the United Nations Paul Heinbecker. She says there is a common theme among them. “They all had wonderful stories to tell about their teachers, about the community, about that feeling of camaraderie, but also giving back to the community as well.”

Silcox says the schools’ tradition of excellence is not only a result of high academic standards. “Excellence, I think, was shown too, with a sense of community that I found at St. Jerome’s and St. Mary’s. They were very, very proud of their schools.”

Among the graduates featured in the book are Kitchener mayor Berry Vrbanovic and someone you may never have heard of named David Morell. “He is the creator, the inventor of Rambo – the character made famous by Sylvester Stallone in the various Rambo movies.”

The book is available at tonight’s launch event and at Wordworth Books in Waterloo.
