Topless rally taking place in Waterloo tomorrow

A topless rally led by three sisters who have become well known throughout Canada is taking place tomorrow in Waterloo.

It follows the women’s topless bike ride last Friday night wherein they say they were stopped by police and told to cover up.

One of the sisters will be covered-up at tomorrow’s rally.

Juno nominated songstress, Alysha Brilla says her stance on the topless debate is that it’s a women’s right to choose.

“Not everyone will want to be topless and that’s fine, but girls who maybe thought they wanted to exercise that right, but didn’t feel comfortable before now (a) can come do it in a safe group on Saturday … and (b) now that they know that the police are aware, they know that they aren’t going to be harassed by the cops.”

Brilla says that when she went on the topless bike ride with her sisters last Friday she felt comfortable (at first,) but that doesn’t mean that she necessarily feels comfortable being topless all the time.

She says the point of the rally is that if women (or men) choose to be in public topless they should be able to do so without being shamed or harassed.

The rally kicks off at noon and the sisters estimate that between 3-400 people will be there, as well as police who will be monitoring the event.
