The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s and women’s curling teams have both won gold and OUA Championship banners.
It’s the second time in Laurier’s history there has been a curling sweep.
The men won their seventh provincial title with a 4-3 win over Western at the Guelph Curling Club on Monday.
The women’s team won their eighth OUA banner, and second consecutive, after a 5-3 win over Brock.
“It feels really good,” commented skip Carly Howard, who became the second Laurier skip to guide her team to back-to-back provincial titles.
“It’s a great feeling,” added skip Aaron Squires, who missed last year’s finals due to illness when Laurier won silver. “It was unfortunate last year what happened, not having a chance to play the finals. This year to come out on top is a great feeling for everybody.”
As it turns out, Laurier is hosting the CIS Championships this year. They run March 18-21 at the K-W Granite Club.
