It’s municipal election day, polls open from 10am until 8pm

It’s municipal election day across Ontario and in Waterloo Region there are a number of must watch races.

For the first time in close to three decades, Carl Zehr’s name will not be on the ballot.

Zehr was first elected as a Kitchener city councillor in 1985 and then made the jump to mayor in 1997 – a role he has held uninterrupted.

Zehr’s decision not to run leaves the race wide open with several candidates vying for the job.

In Waterloo, it’s also a wide open race for mayor, after Brenda Halloran decided after two terms in office she would not seek re-election.
