Golden Hawks out east trying for national championship

The women’s hockey team at Wilfrid Laurier University will be looking to bring back some hardware
from New Brunswick this weekend.

The Golden Hawks open play at the CIS National Championships this afternoon vs. McGill. The game gets underway at 3pm EST.

Laurier recently won its 11th OUA Championship, beating Queen’s in the final.

Golden Hawks Captain, Laura Brooker tells 570 News it was an interesting start to the season as the team began the campaign with eight rookies.

“It was all leadership and the rookies adapting…”

Brooker says what has helped in the playoffs is the team has been scoring by committee.

Devon Skeats and Blair Connelly lead the team in playoff scoring, both have seven points. Tammy Freiburger has five and
Emily Kekewich has four points.
