Hefty fine for shovelling snow onto roadway

When shovelling all the snow and ice off your driveway this winter be sure to keep it off the road.

The City of Kitchener hands out tickets ranging from $110 all the way up to $5000 for residents putting any type material on the road.

Director of By-Law Enforcement for the City of Kitchener Shane Turner tells 570 News they receive about 30 complaints ever winter.

“It is a provision under our traffic by-law that you’re not allowed to place any type of item on the roadway so that can include snow and ice or any other objects or material that you might dump on a road.”

If one of your neighbours is violating this by-law, the number to call is 519 741 2345. Turner says they have staff 24/7 to take these calls.

No tickets have been handed out since the start of this snowfall in Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.
