Bombardier Transportation wins contract for metro system in Saudi Arabia

BERLIN – Bombardier Transportation, a subsidiary of Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B), has won a US$383 million contract to help deliver technology for a transit system in Saudi Arabia.
The work involves system interface management, project management and design, as well as the delivery of 47 two-car driverless Innovia Metro 300 trains equipped with the company’s Mitrac propulsion technology.
Bombardier will be working on the project as part of a group, the ArRiyadh New Mobility Consortium, which comprises two groups that will design, build, construct and commission Line 3. The total contract is worth US$5.9 billion.
Line 3, also known as the Red Line, is a turnkey project that includes the civil construction of the 40.7 kilometre alignment, including 22 stations, electrical and mechanical equipment and rolling stock.
The new Riyadh Metro system will comprise six metro lines totalling approximately 176 kms, which are to be implemented over five years.
The customer is the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh, represented by the Arriyadh Development Authority.
