Quebec man accused of hiding dirty needles in clothing facing more charges

SHERBROOKE, Que. – A Quebec man arrested in connection with dirty syringes found in clothing at a shopping mall is facing more charges.

Claude Letourneau will remain detained after being charged Thursday with new charges of assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, theft and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police say the charges stem from incidents allegedly involving Letourneau earlier this year. They have not ruled out more charges in the future.

Letourneau had already been charged with 29 counts of armed assault.

Over a period of several months, 29 syringes were found and initial tests on some revealed they contained human blood from the same person.

Many of the syringes were found hidden in pants and shorts pockets.

Not all of the people who found the syringes were pricked. Citing the privacy of those who were, police have announced they will not say whether the blood was infected.

Letourneau will return to court in October.
