Ontario teen completes first cross-country flight in amphibious aircraft

TORONTO – A 16-year-old from Ontario has successfully winged his way into the country’s aviation record books.
Matthew Gougeon of Sudbury, Ont. says he landed in Halifax late this afternoon — completing a solo flight from the Pacific to the Atlantic coast of Canada.
His arrival marks the end of his mission to become the youngest person to fly across the country in an amphibious aircraft.
His quest began on July 10 when he departed his home for Tofino, B.C.
He was scheduled to arrive in Halifax on July 20, but announced his early arrival Thursday on Twitter.
Gougeon’s flight was also a fundraising effort for the Neil Armstrong Scholarship Fund, which provides flight training for young people.
