OTTAWA – Statistics Canada says sales of new cars and trucks fell 6.7 per cent in February to 141,589 units.
The agency says lower sales in Ontario and Quebec accounted for more than three-quarters of the national decrease, which partially offset January’s gain.
The agency says that preliminary industry data suggests new motor vehicle sales fell 2.0 per cent in March.
Sales of North-American built passenger cars accounted for most of the decline, falling 10.9 per cent, while sales of overseas-built passenger cars fell 3.9 per cent following five consecutive monthly increases.
Sales of minivans, sport-utility vehicles, light and heavy trucks, vans and buses fell 5.3 per cent in February, the third decline in four months.
New motor vehicle sales were down in seven provinces.
