TORONTO – Research in Motion says BlackBerry services across Europe, the Middle East and Africa have improved after its biggest outage in years.

BlackBerry users have faced huge problems over the past few days getting and receiving emails and messages, as well as launching Internet services.

The company posted a statement today saying services are better, and RIM’s founder Mike Lazaridis took to the company’s website to update and explain as well.

Waterloo based Research In Motion Ltd. (TSX:RIM) says a crucial link in its European infrastructure failed Monday and its backup also failed.

Outages started in Europe, then spread to the Middle East, Africa and hit Canada on Wednesday. Parts of South America, as well as Asian markets including Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and India were also affected.

Although the underlying issues have been repaired, the system had built up a backlog of emails and messages that needed to be wound down.
