English leaders’ debate barely touched on what matters to Canada: May

VICTORIA – Elizabeth May is giving a Green thumbs-down to the English leaders’ debate.

The leader of the Green party says her rivals could have used her help _ they barely touched on issues of importance to Canadian voters.

May was shut out of the debates by the broadcast consortium that runs them because her party doesn’t have a seat in the House of Commons.

She says all the talk of democracy was particularly rich, considering the fact a legitimate political party with the support of nearly a million Canadians wasn’t allowed to participate.

May followed the debate online from Victoria, offering up written and verbal commentary throughout the evening.

She says she heard nothing about homelessness, mental health, prescription drug costs, arts funding and the treatment of Canadian military veterans.
