Elizabeth May shut out of televised leaders’ debates

OTTAWA – It’s not easy being “green” as Green Party Leader Elizabeth May has been told she won’t be allowed in the televised leaders’ debate.

But, May won’t take no for an answer and vows to throw on the pressure until she gets a spot at the table.

680News spoke with May just minutes after she got word of the decision. She’s very upset saying it’s high-handed and arbitrary and she claims there is no way this will stand.

Once again, May plans on appealing to Canadians for help.

“That’s what it took last time, and I didn’t think we’d have to have a fight this time. But, it looks like we’re into a fight to get into the debate,” she said.

The broadcast consortium that hosts the event told her only leaders with representation in the House of Commons can take part this year, but May said that doesn’t make sense.

“Every single Canadian from coast to coast finds a Green Party candidate on their ballot when they go to vote, and nobody outside Quebec finds anyone from the Bloc Quebecois on their ballot,” she said.

She believes Conservative Leader Stephen Harper and NDP Leader Jack Layton may have had a hand in the decision.
