Shots fired near G20 security zone, police look for vehicle involved

TORONTO, Ont. – People living and working within the G20 summit perimetre zone may be questioning their own security after a shooting incident early Tuesday morning just steps from the yellow zone.

Police are looking for a dark-coloured vehicle — a BMV or Mercedes with tinted windows — that managed to escape police away from the scene at John and Mercer streets.

At least three shots were fired into the air.

Also, police searching through other sites discovered stashes of broken concrete blocks that they believe were hidden by protesters.

That incident followed what’s believed to be the first of many protests that tied up the downtown core Monday afternoon.

Hundreds of protesters shut down traffic in parts of the city, marching through the streets while officers on bicycles moved alongside, blocking side streets as they passed by.
