Open Text has unveiled plans for a $20-million dollar expansion.
A new five-storey building at the company’s headquarters near Columbia and Hagey in Waterloo will more than double the office space.
The building should be completed in the summer of 2011.
Executive Chair and CSO, Tom Jenkins says Open Text never stopped growing during the recession and they desperately need the space.
Jenkins says the new tower will house 800 jobs, but as to whether the space creates the jobs or the jobs need the space, he says the chicken and the egg came at the same time.
Jenkins adds spin-off jobs could be as high as 8,000.
He says their existing building is so short of space some staff work in the board rooms, and there’s a shortage of parking spots.
